2007-05-09 Juhani Ec3, Events

Kesäkuun ainoa tapaaminen on ensimmäisenä maanantaina, 4. kesäkuuta (Puolustusvoimien lippujuhlapäivänä) jo kello 18! Silloin menemme piknikille Puolalanpuistoon. HG tarjoaa pientä purtavaa (patonkia, tuorejuustoa, non-alc juomaa), jokainen voi tuoda lisäksi omia herkkuja. Jos sattuu satamaan, pidämme toimistolla peli-illan eväiden kanssa.

A Queer Perspective On European Students

2007-02-18 Ralf Ec3, In english, Events

The main theme of the conference will be queer theory and activism, and defining strategies to fight heteronormativity. It will be a means of creating manifold opportunities, for cooperation between organizations, connections between activists and politicians as well as between activists and academia, and activists and activists.

For 8 days, 25-35 student activists will gather in Stockholm, Sweden. The methods of working will be both formal and informal learning, lecturing, peer-to-peer education, workshops and sharing of experiences. The main aim of the conference is to educate the participants on heteronormativity and its consequences, especially within higher education but also within society at large, on queer theory and activism. Another aim is to deconstruct gender and examine the notion of gender performativity. Thirdly, we want to examine the notion of related phobias such as homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, their mechanisms and how to tackle them.

ANSO has a number of speakers in mind and has a substantial network of politicians to help educate on how policy making processes can be influenced in order to fight heteronormativity in higher education. We also have connections with student union representatives, staff at universities, LGBT activists from different organizations and countries, as well as researchers and well-known scholars.
